These pictures were taken before the Twin Towers fell, roughly around 9:20 AM I wasn't really sure what to expect when I got out there...I saw it on TV but it's nothing like the real thing. The crowd outside was a mixed reaction. Some people were freaking out, running, crying, just trying to get out of there. Others had this dazed look in their eye. It was about this time when we started hearing whispers that the Pentagon was also hit. I kept making my way up to Broadway to see how close I could get. I made it up to Broadway(2 blocks away from the WTC) and realize that I really don't need to be out here. At the same time I couldn't go home. I just wanted to see what I could see and put my digital zoom to use. At this point the crowd started freaking out, although you can't tell it by this picture. The longer I was out there, the more people poured out into the street that were higher up in the building and closer to the impact. My cell phone battery was dead, so I decided to go home and start calling everyone to let them know I'm OK. As I turned, a cop started telling everyone that there was a bomb in the area and the we need to get out of there. I wasn't sure if he was just trying to move the crowd or what but I certainly didn't need ot stick around and find out. I headed down Anne Street and back over to my apartment. |
